Marble is a metamorphic rock created from the extreme heat and pressure put under limestone beneath the earth’s surface. Travertine is also a form of limestone found near water sources and is made mostly of calcium carbonate and minerals found around the water. As for Limestone, it is a sedimentary rock form of calcium carbonate and has mostly white coloring. Soapstone is a steatite stone and feels soft and smooth to the touch. It is resistant to acids and is very durable. All of these stones remained trapped inside the earth, where they eventually became the stones as you see today. Marble and the like are quarried throughout the world in the form of huge blocks. These blocks are cut into slabs that are generally 2 cm to 3 cm thick and the faces are polished to the specified finish. These slabs are then carefully crated and shipped to the fabricators who will process them into the final product. |
